The Dundalk Daily is an online resource that will be updated everyday for the citizens (and potential citizens) of Dundalk. The site will post information about events, happenings, news, and much, much more.
Over the past two years, I have been throwing this idea around in my head. Well, one night, while still awake at 12:10am, I decided to take action and make it happen. I hope that this blog will provide you with a picture of why people love it here.
Every community has “struggles” and challenges, and everyone knows that. Having a forum to discuss these challenges, where we not only brainstorm solutions, but take thoughtful action, will be paramount in making Dundalk’s revitalization a success.
As the Grandson of GAF and Bethlehem Steel workers, I am a born and raised Dundalkian. I firmly believe that Dundalk, Maryland, USA is the greatest place on earth and is in the midst of a renaissance that will not only bring a great deal of wonderful things to our community, but will preserve our heritage and local tradition.
If you have something you would like me to post, just shoot me an email at thedundalkdaily@gmail.com.

Joe
Have you heard from Jordan recently.
I live in Florida and look at this site to get news about Dundalk.
It hasn’t changed since Jordan said he was getting married.

Neil,
That’s what happens when you get married…..:)
Check out some updates later today…I am doing my best to keep all the “balls” juggling in the air.
Newest update is that I am running for State Senate.

I guess this blog is defunct, regardless of what Jordan says at the top.
If anyone is out there do you know of another Dundalk blog?

You have done a great job. I have bookmarked this site and will check it regularly. Do you know if there is a walking group/club in Dundalk? Thank you.

I lived on Belclare Rd during the 30’s and 40’s and would like to blog with any neighbors during that period who are still walking on top the grass.
Call me Neil or Corny

Since I’m 78, I’m old enough to talk to myself.
When I was a youngster, I liked to sit on the front steps and watch the goings on at Logan field. I heard there was a trimotor plane that took people for a flight around the city that had a box of sand under each seat so you could put your feet in it and feel you are still on the ground.
Also, every 4th of July the parade got started right in front of the house. That was fun to watch also.

Well, it’s been another week and I still can’t find a blogger. Well, Logan Field didn’t last. The airport moved across the road to where the Marine Terminal is now. The name was changed but I can’t think of the name. Anyhow, after the war started, the army started a prison camp on the field with an obstacle course. That was interesting to watch at times. Of course it was always fun to take the bike over to the water and catch crabs. Sometime we caught enough to huckster them up and down the alley.

Mr. Steeman,
Thanks for sharing your stories! Did you ever hear the Howard Hughes story about Logan Airfield?

Hi Jordan,
I just googled Howard Hughes movie and it appeared they were talking about a Logan Field in Boston. I didn’t see the movie.
Thanks for your support.

I tried to google a free movie to download but there was always some gimmick.
I never got to the Airport Bar and Grille. Too young.
Was there a book that the movie was made from?

Hey, anybody from the Bailey family out there?
How about someone from Dunbar Rd.?
We always had a lot of kids to play basketball in the back alley or roller hockey in the side street.
I think I set a record by breaking my arms 3 times.

OK, its been almost a month now. I’m beginning to think this blog is not well read. Neal Perouty used to live near me. Now he lives in Florida near me. Anyone remember him? Does anyone remember the flying boats that used to take off and land right by St. Helena? I met a pilot who joined Toastmasters here. Real nice guy.

Where are you a member of Toastmasters? I haven’t been updating as often as usual due to getting married. The wedding is August 1st, and there is still so much to do. I’ll try to be better!

Does anyone remember riding daily on the “26″?
Did it for 4 years to and from North Ave.
The trip on the elevated from Fayette St to North Ave. was always exciting.
Plenty of time to do homework.

I am no longer a member of Toastmasters, but joined a club wherever I lived. The last club was in Venice, Fl. The first club was at the Martin Co. in Baltimore.
I wish you and your wife a happy marriage.

Thanks for the good wishes. I wish us the same. ha.
I was part of the Toastmasters club at college.

I had a tough time getting over fright of speaking before the class in college.
Toastmasters taught me how to get over that fright and sure helped me in my business career.
I might still be in it if I hadn’t suffured a stroke about ten years ago and find it difficult to get up and walk without a cane.

That’s great to hear that you were able to break “the fright”, and I am sad to hear about your stroke. But, the fact that you are still around and active is a great thing. Two things helped me get over the fright..one community theatre from 5 years old till 11 years old and Dale Carnegie books. His stuff is like pages of gold. I highly recommend his Influence and Speaking books.

Another great book is Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill. I once attended a weekly seminar based on the book. It was quite helpful.

For how many years did you do Toastmasters?
By: Jordan Hadfield on July 27, 2009
at 9:52 am
Good question.
Well, let’s see. I was about 30 when I worked at the Martin Co. That would have been 1961. I was 69 when I had the stroke. That would have been 2000. So I would say about 39 years, give or take a year or so when I worked at Martin in Orlando.

Hi Denise… Do you mean the wedding or the blog?
Are you a Toastmaster?
Do you live in Dundalk?
Did you ever ride the 26?
Would you like a copy of Think and Grow Rich?
Did you ever fly in the flying boat out of St. Helena?
Does it sound like I’m starved for company?
By: Cornelius Steeman on July 27, 2009

The blog
I am not a Toastmaster. ( don’t know what that is) !
Any other questions?
I am a home grown Dundalkian.. 40 yrs of my life here! Never rode the 26. I do not want a copy of Think and Grow Rich. I flew out of St Helena many times, but never in a flying boat! And yes, you must be starved for company
Seriously… Jordan is a great young man. I have known him most of his life. Dundalk is lucky to have him on our side!

Does anyone out there Skype?
Its free for those who have Skype to talk to each other and see each other if they both have a camera. I have a little Logitech Quick Cam. Costs about $40 and just plugs into back of the computer. Great picture. I talk to my daughter and the kids.

Thanks for your answers, Denise.
Next time you see Jordan, ask him about Toastmasters. He belonged to it in college.
No more questions.

I’m interested in what happened to the companies where our folks worked when we were growing up.
Like Sparrows Point. I heard it was bought by a Japanese firm. Is it still operating?
How about Western Electric? GM? I think the plant made Chevies. The soap company on Holibird Ave. Could smell it when the wind was in the right direction.

I googled Sparrows Point and found that it is owned by ArcelorMittal and is still going strong.
According to their website they are the largest steel products company in the world.

Well, Jordan, you are a happily married man by now.
Are you ready to get back to the Dundalk blog?
What did you like about Dundalk when you were growing up?
I can recall “moving” night was fun.

Does anyone remember the Dundalk Bathing Beach? Affectionately called “snake hole”.
How about the Dundalk Athletic Club?
They threw some great bull roasts and dances.
Also, the poker parties weren’t bad (when I won).

Did anyone know the Hanna girls on Dunbar Rd.?
My parents would park me there when I was a little boy and they wanted to go out.
How about the Hall brothers. We used to pal around, go swimming in the creek, crabbing where the docks are now.
